Hello, my name is Val Lewis
I was born into a family where education was valued, but there were few books. My father bought several newspapers each day and I would read these from cover to cover. I realised the power of reading and became a book worm. My family fed my habit!
I hold a Teaching Certificate of Education (Junior & Secondary), a Bachelor of Education (Honours degree) and an MA Masters in Education. I have been a teacher for many years and worked as a French teacher in a UK secondary school. I was also Head of a French Department in the UK and then went on to become a Head Teacher.
I came to live in France in 2002 after working for many years in the UK education system and I currently teach Key Stage 1 to iGCSE English Language at Accents.
For me, my task is to open doors for pupils - they may choose to open them wider or sometimes close them. I want to help them to make choices. As a teacher of many years, it is still a privilege to be the one who sees a child realise that the jumble of letters on a page can become a word, a phrase or a sentence.
At Accents I try to transfer my love of literature and language to the children and to enrich their lives with books and the information and enjoyment we can gain from them. I follow the English national curriculum but if an event or a question sparks an interest, I do encourage the children to develop their understanding and to use this experience as a learning tool.
